Maryland Energy Assistance Program (MEAP)

Do you need help paying your home’s heating bills?

Quick Facts
What is it?
MEAP is a state program that helps you pay the cost of heating your home, even if heat is included in your rent.

What do you get?
MEAP will send money for your heating bill directly to your energy supplier (if you pay your own heating bill) or to your landlord (if heat is included in your rent). The amount you will receive is based on your income and energy usage.

How long do you get it?
You can continue to receive MEAP for as long as you qualify.

Look Out
Households who qualify for MEAP can also sign up for the Utility Service Protection Program (USPP), which can help protect you from utility cut-offs.

Households receiving MEAP may qualify for the Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) which provides free weather stripping, caulking, etc. to help make your home more fuel efficient and comfortable.
