What is it?
The Renters' Tax Credit Program provides qualified renters with a property tax credit similar to that of someone who owns a home. The program is based upon the idea that a percent of how much rent you pay to your landlord goes to yearly property taxes for the home. If your rent exceeds a certain proportion of your income then you can qualify for the credit. What do I get? If the renter and the dwelling meet specific conditions a payment of up to $750 may be received. The credit is paid as a direct check from the State of Maryland. How long do I get it? Renters who qualify must apply by September 1st of each year to receive the Renters' Tax Credit. The payment is once a year. |

| The applicant must be a lease holder for the property and be legally responsible for the rent. If the dwelling that is rented is owned by a tax exempt, charitable organization or is exempt in any way from property taxation, a tax credit cannot be granted. | ||
